We were pleased to welcome City of Thousand Oaks City Manager Scott Mitnick and Community Development Director John Prescott to Manna on September 22, 2014. The visit was hosted by Manna Board President Aaron Podell, Board Member Bob Engler, and Executive Director Jennifer Schwabauer.
As city manager, Scott Mitnick reports directly to the Thousand Oaks City Council with a wide range of responsibilities that include:
|

- Legislation
|
- Personnel/Labor Relations
- Public Safety Management
- Public Information
- Council & Citizen Committees
- Special Projects
|
John Prescott's community development department is responsible for the following aspects of city operations:
- Planning Division
- Building Division
- Permit Process
- Code Compliance
- Affordable Housing
- Open Space
- Redevelopment Successor Agency
The two officials from the City of Thousand Oaks were given an in-depth tour of the Manna facility. And it was a great opportunity to talk about how Manna is serving the needs of the low income community in the Conejo Valley. Client demographics and qualifications for food distribution were outlined as well. While we all share a common goal, the group also discussed other pantries in the area and the differences between them and Manna.
The visit initiated, what we anticipate will be, an ongoing dialog with the city manager's office about the challenges of conducting Manna operations in a residential neighborhood, our vision for the future, and the steps we have taken, and will continue to take, to move to a more suitable location for Manna food donations, storage, and distribution.
