An alarming 3 in 4 teachers and principals report regularly seeing hungry kids in their schools, says a 2013 Share Our Strength report. These same teachers and principals are spending more of their own money to help hungry kids in their schools. On average,
teachers who buy food for hungry students spend $37 a month— that’s almost $400 per teacher per school year.
Principals report spending about $60 a month, which over a school year could add up to be the value of a house payment.
Manna is committed to fighting hunger in our schools, and we need you to help to do it!
Back-to-school is a great time to donate "kid friendly" non-perishable foods to stock Manna's pantry. Items like canned soup, canned pasta, hot & cold cereal, canned fruit, granola bars, mac & cheese, small drinks, and crackers will go a long way to helping school kids eat right so they can stay alert and engaged in class, and learn.
And, it's not hard to help because our kids like what your kids like. Just buy a few extra cans or boxes every time you shop and drop them by the pantry. Or, encourage your class or school to hold a food drive and PACK OUR TRUCK, which will have a greater impact on hunger in our schools.
Check out the “Food Drive Toolkit” on our website for a ton of fun, creative ways to hold an impactful food drive. And, don’t forget to register your drive. We want to know about you and be able to thank you properly.
Together we can curb hunger in our schools and set our kinds on the path to a great year of learning!
