Food for Fines Supports the Conejo Valley Food Bank
“Food for Fines” is an exceptional program that benefits all participants. Libraries in the Conejo Valley region recently utilized this program in support of the Conejo Valley Food Bank. From November 30 to December 6, Thousand Oaks and Newbury Park libraries offered library patrons the opportunity to pay for their overdue book fines using food. In exchange for a can of food, the libraries waved $1 of fines outstanding by the donating patrons. All of the food donations were given to the Conejo Valley Food Bank program called Manna. Donations were not accepted for rental fees or to replace lost or damaged items. Typically books that are overdue at these libraries cost 25 cents per day. This was a welcomed chance for the community to support the food bank for the holiday rush, while giving them a break on library fines, for a win-win for everyone. The Conejo Valley Food Bank appreciates the support of the “Food for Fines” program in helping provide food for the community members who need it. Contact us today for more information regarding donations of food, time or money to the Manna program.
