OPHS’s New Club CAN make a difference

About a year ago, Gaby formed a new club at her Oak Park High called Cans 4 Food. The mission of her club is to address two very important causes. The first is to keep our environment clean so Gaby and several other members of her club collect aluminum cans & plastic bottles at school, and at home which they redeem for cash. Last school year, Gaby and her teammates have collected 10,000 bottles and cans! They worked really hard to collect the recyclables during their lunch and after school.  This collection converted to $500 which was donated to Manna.

In addition, Gaby initiated a food drive and with the help of her teachers and students was able to collect 980 canned food items.  Pictured here are Gaby and Sasha as they deliver the check and the canned food to Manna.

Gaby will be a Junior next year and has some very exciting ideas on how to raise additional food and money which will be donated to Manna. For more information about how you can start a similar club at your school and the other exciting opportunities to assist Manna, please see Gaby’s website at   http://www.cans4food.com .
